2016 Men’s African Club Championship- Day 4

Egypt’s Ahly and Smouha through to quarterfinal as Swehly upset Zamalek

 

 Cairo, Egypt, March 27, 2016- Record holders and defending champions and Smouha, both from Egypt joined the already qualified Swehly (Libya) and Zamalek (Egypt) to the quarterfinal of the 2016 Men’s African Club Championship following Day 4 of the preliminary round held at Cairo Stadium Complex in Egypt on Sunday.

 

 Swehly of Libya cruised past organisers Zamalek 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 29-27, 15-13) in Pool A but both teams already qualified to the quarterfinal since the end of day 3. Swehly improved their win- loss ratio to 4-0, while Zamalek dropped to 3-1.

 

Gendarmerie (Madagascar) trounced Police (SEN) 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) to improve their record to 2-2, while the losers dropped to 0-4.

 

 Sudan’s Daim Hamad recorded their second victory over DGSP (CGO) 3-2 (25-15, 27-29, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12) to improve to 2-2, while the losers become also 2-2.

 

 In Pool B Ahly of Egypt upset Espoir of RD Congo 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) to lead with 4-0 record ahead of the losers who dropped to 3-1.

 

 Gabon’s TGOM played their best to overwhelm Douanes (Burkina Faso) 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-12) in a thrilling encounter. TGOM became third with 2-2, while the losers dropped to 1-3.

 

 Atletico (Cape Verde) fought for more than 2 hours to overcome Wolaitta (Ethiopia) 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 27-25, 18-25, 15-11). The winners improved to 2-2 and the losers became 0-4.

 

 Pool C featured the day’s show, as 4 time champions Esperance (Tunisia) beat the struggling Setif (ALG) 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18) to improve to 2-1 with 7 points to advance to the second position with 7 points following Egypt’s Geish (8 points) who were in rest due to the disqualification of their opponent Autoridade (Mozambique). 

 

 Cameroon Sport claimed the first victory over GSU (Kenya) 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20) to improve to 1-2, while GSU dropped to 0-3.

 

 In Pool D Smouha beat their Neighbours Fanar Ain Azel of Algeria to improve their win- loss ratio to 4-0 and secure quarterfinals ticket, while Fanar dropped to 2-2 to stay in the third position.

 

 Ahly Beni Ghazi (LBA) set the third win against Nahda (SUD) 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17) to jump to the second position with 3-1 record leaving Nahda at the bottom of the pool.

 

 FAP (Cameroon) fought aggressively to take on emerging Nemostars (Uganda) 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 15-13). FAP became 2-2 with 6 points, while Nemostars 1-3. 

 

 The remaining 4 slots will be determined on the last day of the preliminaries on Monday where the second team in Pool B and D beside both Pool C representatives in the quarterfinal will be nominated.

Ahly Beni Ghazi, Geish and Espoir won thrilling tiebreaks at Men’s African Club Champs

 

 Cairo, Egypt, March 24, 2016- With three 5 set matches, the second day of the 2016 Men’s African Club Championship showed more thrills and exciting actions in the 2 venues of the competition as Libya’s Ahly Beni Ghazi, Egypt’s Geish and RD Congo’s Espoir fought for more than 2 hours to clinch the tough tiebreaker victories at Cairo Stadium Complex on Thursday.

 

 Pool C match between favourites Geish of Egypt and 4 time champions Esperance of Tunisia was the master seen of the day as the Egyptian team came from 2 sets behind to clinch 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-11) win in what is considered as top of the pool decider.

 

 "We considered this match as a final as we need to finish as pool leaders to avoid meeting the defending champions Ahly of Egypt in the quarterfinal," Said Geish coach Sherif El Shemerly.

 

 "we corrected all the mistakes of the first and second set to overwhelm the situation thereafter. Now we have to rest enough before meeting Cameroon Sport after less than 24 hours."

 

 Though the political situation of the their country, Libya’s Ahly Beni Ghazi upset Algeria’s Fanar Ain Azel who set the surprise of the opening day against Cameroonian champions FAP. The Libyans needed 133 minutes to overcome their opponent 3-2 (21-25, 26-24, 35-33, 22-25, 15-11) in Pool D.

 

 In the third show of the day Espoir of Congo set their second win against Douanes (Burkina Faso) 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-17, 2-16, 15-9) after they came back from 2 sets behind in Pool B. 

 

 Heavy favourites and 11 time champions Ahly of Egypt pulled off the second straight sets victory against Wolaitta (ETH) 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-10).

 

 Orgainzers and 5 time champions Zamalek secured also the second victory against Gendarmerie (MAD) 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-14).

 

 In a Libyan day of victories, the seond team Swehly set the win also 3-0 (25-25-12, 25-25-14, 25-23) against Daim Hamad of Sudan.

 

DGSP (CGO) overcame the shaky start to overwhelm Police (SEN) 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22) in 63 minutes in Pool A.

 

 Atletico (CPV) rebounded after the opening loss to upset TGOM (GAB) 3-1 (15-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21) in the third of Pool B matches. 

 

 Setif (ALG) grabbed second victory over GSU (KEN) 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) in Pool C 

 

 Other Pool D matches showed FAP (CMR) rebounding against Nahda (SUD) 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18) and Smouha (EGY) continuing their steady performance to beat Nemostars (UGA) 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-16).

2016 Men’s African Club Championship- Day 1

Algeria’s Fanar stun experienced FAP as Egyptian teams start victorious

 

 Cairo, Egypt, March 23, 2016- Algeria’s new comers Fanar Ain Azel surprised Cameroon’s experienced champions in grueling tiebreaker 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 15-12) in Pool D of Men’s African Club Championship opening held at Cairo Stadium Complex in Egypt on Wednesday.

 

 The match featured the show of the opening day beside 4 wins for the Egyptian representatives Ahly the defending champions and the record holders (11 crowns), 5 time champions Zamalek, the emerging Geish and the new comers Smouha.

 

 The favourite teams set their first victory comfortably to show their consistency to play for the gold medal as Libya’s Swehly, RD Congo’s Espoir and Algeria’s Setif went for a straight sets win.

Gendarmerie (MAD) v DGSP (CGO) 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19)

 Libya’s Swehly needed 67 minutes to overcome Police (SEN) 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-14) after a great game. The Libyan team were better at the net action to win widely through their powerful attacks Zamalek who was supported by their spectators crashed 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-19), while Gendarmerie (MAD) overpowered DGSP (CGO) 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) in 69 minutes.

Espoir (RD Congo) started the pool matches with a comfortable win against Wolaitta (ETH) 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21) in 74 minutes. Ahly (EGY) started their campaign by beating TGOM (GAB) 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15) in 62 mintes to show that they are eyeing on a 12th title. Douanes fought for 76 minutes to down TGOM (GAB) 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-15)

Setif (ALG) v CSVB (CMR) 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-13)

Geish (EGY) v GSU (KEN) 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-21)

Setif (ALG) showed the developed Algerian volleyball as the cruised past Cameroon Sport (CMR) 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-13). Egyptian League leaders Geish (EGY) trounced GSU (KEN) 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-21) as the Kenyans didn’t show enough resistance. Stef Auto didn’t show in their match Esperance of Tunisia as the latter are considered as winners 3-0.

Nemostars (UGA) v Nahda (SUD) 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16)

Fanar (ALG) v FAP (CMR) 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 15-12)

Smouha (EGY) v Ahly Beni Ghazi (LBA) 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-23)

 

Nemostar featured the developed Ugandan volleyball after they beat El Nahda (SUD) 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) in a match overwhelmed by the winners. Algeriian Fanar played their best to overcome the strong Cameroonian service in their way to set a thrilling victory over FAP (CMR) 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 15-12). The Arab runner up Smouha (EGY) flew past Ahly Beni Ghazi (LBA) 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-23)
